Zoe Yadira Zaldana Nazario (born June 19, 1978) is an American actress. She had her breakthrough role in the 2000 film Center Stage, and later gained prominence for her roles as Anamaria in Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, Uhura in the 2009 film Star Trek, and Neytiri in James Cameron’s Avatar. Zoe was born in Passaic, New Jersey, to Aridio Zaldaña, a Dominican, and Asalia Nazario, a Puerto Rican.
Her first languages are English and Spanish. She spent the majority of her early childhood growing up in Queens, New York. At 10, she moved with her family to the Dominican Republic, where they lived for the next seven years. Saldana enlisted in a ballet class at one of the most prestigious dancing schools in the Dominican Republic. After returning to Queens at age 17, she began performing with the Faces theater troupe, which put on plays geared to providing positive messages for teens, via themes dealing with issues such as substance abuse and sex. These performances not only gave her valuable experience but were a source of great pride, as she knew that she was making a difference in the lives of young people like herself. While performing with the Faces troupe and also the New York Youth Theater Zoe was recruited for a talent agency. Her dance training years before, coupled with her acting experience, greatly helped her land her first big screen role as Eva, the talented and headstrong ballet dancer in the 2000 film Center Stage.

Why we think she’s hot:
Way back in 2003, Zoe Saldana had a tiny little role in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, and was all set to have a major role in the ensuing sequels. That never happened. We can’t help but wonder, eight years later, with Zoe being one of the most scorching stars on the planet, if the Pirate people regret it. Though Saldana’s ‘Caribbean’ role may have been a forgettable one, the Star Trek scene where she changes her skirt, while a waylayed Chris Pine awaits from under the bed… is one that will be burned in our synapses for a lifetime. Curiously enough, though Zoe is a self-proclaimed Trekker, she actually never saw the original Star Trek series until after she was cast for the part. No matter, this half Dominican, half Puerto Rican hunkette claims that her perfect man would also be dual-blooded- half bad boy and half geek. Our guess is that that’s an equation which works well for most Trekkers… and most Smartass-aholics as well.
