Yubin Kim (born October 4, 1988) commonly known as Yubin (also spelled Yoobin), is a South Korean singer, rapper, actress, model and emcee. She is the main rapper of the Korean girl group Wonder Girls, which debuted in 2007. Yubin attended JungAm Elementary School and Anyang High School for a while before moving to San Jose, California, where she studied at Leland High School.
Prior to her debut with the Wonder Girls, Yubin was originally set to debut as a member of girl group, Five Girls (오소녀) under Good Entertainment, along with G.NA, After School’s UEE, Secret’s Hyosung and former T-ara member and actress Yang Jiwon. However, the group disbanded shortly before their scheduled debut in 2007 due to Good Entertainment’s financial troubles and the members all left for separate Korean entertainment companies. On September 7, 2007, Yubin made her debut with the Wonder Girls as the main rapper of the group, on their comeback single “Tell Me”, replacing former member Hyuna, after she left due to health issue, and ensuingly joined a similar group known as 4Minute. Kim was selected to the group via a talent audition. Although Yubin is known to most as just the rapper of the group, she occasionally also acts as an additional vocalist to the group.
In 2008, the Wonder Girls won two Daesangs (“Artist of the Year” Awards). They served as the Jonas Brothers opening act on their 2009 world tour. The group began their entry into the American market in 2009, with lead single “Nobody”; the single became the first song by a Korean group to enter the Billboard Hot 100. They are co-managed in the United States by JYP Entertainment and Jonas Group.
She and the rest of her band mates from the Wonder Girls have been featured on a number of different variety and reality TV shows. Yubin also made a short cameo in MBC’s popular sitcom, ‘That Person Is Coming’. -Wikipedia
