Marie-Mai Bouchard (born July 7, 1984) is a French Canadian singer from Québec, also known by her stage name Marie-Mai, best known for being one of the top finalists of the first season of the Quebec reality show Star Académie. Marie’s father was also a musician.
Bouchard began her interest in music as a child while taking practicing piano lessons, and also participated in musical theater. Shortly later Bouchard began singing, and her grandmother helped her to improve her singing abilities further. It was also Bouchard’s grandmother who suggested she audition for Star Académie. Prior, in 2001, Bouchard began performing in the Passion Intense show at Montreal’s Theatre Musical.
Bouchard became a finalist in the 2003 edition of Star Académie, and immediately became noticed for her pop-rock style. Bouchard finished third behind Marie-Elaine Thibert, the runner-up of the competition and Wilfred Le Bouthillier, the eventual winner. After the Star Académie tour ended in 2004, she joined the cast of Rent, a rock opera musical held at the Olympia Theatre in Montreal.
Marie-Mai’s debut album Inoxydable was released on September 28, 2004. Over 120,000 albums were sold in Quebec alone when the album was released in France. Several singles had reached high in the Quebec charts. On September 4, 2011, Bouchard married Fred St-Gelais (also her producer) in Hawaii. The couple had been engaged since 2006.On February 28 2010, Marie-Mai performed “Emmène-Moi” during the closing ceremonies of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games. -Wikipedia

I guess the old saying, “You’re not always who you were in high school.” rings true for Marie Mai, who revealed in 2011 that she had been bullied in secondary school for her attention disorder. ADHD or not, for us it’s the heavy eyeliner, the leather & spandex, and that in your face “I’m French, bitch.” attitude… that kinda makes it seem like she’s the one doing the bullying, that makes her pretty damn smoking. Plus, we have to admit, her music is really, really good, and that alone is pretty sexy. Facile, oui?
