CHELSEA GILLIGAN Miss “April-May June” 2012

It is on the heels of our annual Smartasses Top 100 Sexiest Women List each year, when we break out a little ceremonial grandiosity to hand pick one particularly outstanding model for our feature “April-May June” spot- just because we find a little tongue-in-cheek humor in the fact that a gal could actually be named, “April May June”. But make no mistake, there’s nothing ‘funny’ (other than that’s how this jazzy Gemini likes her men) about the devilish dazzle of this year’s predominant debutante, Chelsea Gilligan. Speaking of our Top 100 Sexiest List, ‘Chelly’ has been on it not once, but twice, and in regards to ceremony and pomp, as most West Coasters know, Gilligan is quite used to that as well, having worn the royal crown of Miss Teen California in 2009.

But no matter where you live, there is no denying that Chelsea is one chichi chick who will not only be celebrating her 21st birthday in the middle of her reign here, but one who definitely has the kind of looks it takes, to make someone think a hell of a lot more about May flowers than they do April showers. While we’re on the subject of  ’reigns’ & ‘royalty’, take note boys, another savor Gilligan savors is when a guy knows how to treat her like… you guessed it, a princess. And no matter what you do, keep this fashion model and actress well out of the way of snakes & spiders, she doesn’t even like seeing them on TV.

As far as other ladies go, Miss April-May June’s mantra is “Just enjoy life and be yourself!” and believes that the drama is best left back in high-school. In regards to those days, thanks to Chelsea’s height she made an excellent post-player on the basketball court, and thanks to the braids she wore while playing that position (everyone else wore ponytails, so she went braids) she picked up the nickname ‘Pocahontas”. No one will argue that “Pocahontas on the post” has a certain ring to it.

When we asked Chelly about her passions in life, her response was a vehement one- “COOKING! It’s such a passion of mine! I feel like you can express yourself so much through your food. Its such an art form and a great release of stress for me. I try and come up with interesting recipes and to give old recipes a new twist. My all time favorite chef is Giada de Laurentiis! I love her style of cooking and how she puts love into each of her dishes.” We’d venture to bet that with all of Gilligan’s hotness, she can probably bring the water to boil simply by staring at it.

20 Questions with Chelsea Gilligan – Miss April-May June 2012

1- The worst advice my mother ever gave me was: Honestly, and not to sound cheesy but my mom has never given me bad advice. I ask her about things all the time and 99% of the time she’s right. She is a very smart and beautiful woman!

2- The last good movie I watched was: The Help. What an inspirational movie that just makes you want to get up and make a change. Whether in yourself or the world. I could watch the movie over and over again.

3- My favorite pig out food is: Flaming Hot Cheetoo Puffs!! It’s really sad but I think I’m addicted to them. I love how puffy they are and how much hot flavoring they put on them! Mmmmmm…. Gets my mouth watering just thinking about it.. I have a bag of them on my fridge right now as we speak!

4- My favorite actress is: Angelina Jolie. I feel like she is such a chameleon. She transforms into all of her characters so well. I also love that she does so much charity work. It goes to show that you can be successful and in the end know what its all about. Giving back! and staying humble.

4.2 – My favorite actor is: Sean Penn. He is incredible!! Again with transforming into all of those diverse characters and making them so real!  I feel like there is nothing he can’t do.

5- My favorite childhood memory is: Christmas time! Christmas was and still is a very big deal in my life and my family’s life! I can’t get enough of it! If it was up to me, I would have Christmas everyday! Not for the presents but for the holiday cheer and love that you feel in the air. And yes I am that person that will listen to Christmas music all the time!! Whether it’s Christmas or not. Don’t judge… (Warning if you believe in Santa Claus still do not read past this sentence) I have a younger brother and sister who are twins! When i was younger I used to help my dad out with the Christmas eve surprise. Outside in my backyard we had a grapefruit tree. To keep the Santa spirit alive and to ensure them that Santa was in fact real, my dad and I would throw the grapefruit on top of the roof as if Santa’s reindeer were prancing around. My dad would yell “HO HO HO Merry Christmas!” It was so much fun! We then went back inside and ate some of Santa’s cookies and took little bits out of the carrots for the reindeer. I have to say looking back at it now… How ridiculous is that? But soooo funny!

6- My favorite bands(s) or musical artist(s) is/are: I’m really into old time jazz, blues and swing. Love Etta James, Louis Armstrong, Glen Miller, Frank Sinatra… all the greats! If you come over to my house, 9 times out of 10 that’s what will be in the background.

7- My most prized possession is: On my 7th birthday my dad, Todd Gilligan took me to the bank and gave me 7 silver dollar coins. Sad to say at the time I couldn’t really have a relationship with him so for him to take the time and give me something so special meant the world to me. I’ll never forget it for the rest of my life. I have them safe and sound in my piggy bank.

8- My most major accomplishment: So far it would be booking How I met Your Mother. I look forward to the future and seeing what other major accomplishments I can achieve.

9- My personal hero is: Besides God, I don’t know that I have one hero in my life that I look up to. God has blessed me with such wonderful friends and family that help me everyday. I can go to each one specifically and ask for help and I know that they have my best interest in mind.

10- I’d give anything to: I’d give anything to travel the world with just a backpack! I think it would be such a life changing experience to witness different cultures and food. To not have to worry about day to day things. All you would have is your backpack and the world!

11- I’ve never been able to: I’ve never been able to raise one eyebrow at a time!! It annoys me so much because I want to so bad! I try and practice all the time and my face just looks like I’m constipated! Hopefully one day I’ll be able to get it.

12- The worst part of my job is: Having to worry about my body constantly! To know that you’re walking into a room where they’re immediately judging you on your looks and figure. It really becomes annoying and it can get to a person sometimes. That’s when you have to remind yourself that your uniqueness makes you you! You have to have a thick skin and as my mom says, “Let it roll off your back like water off a duck”. Let your inner beauty shine!

13- My fantasy is: That’s such a hard question because I have so many fantasy’s. To win an Oscar, to become a well known actress, to one day have my own restaurant, to backpack it all across the world, to get married etc. I want to do everything!

14- The one thing I cannot stand in people is: I just can’t stand duplicity. Don’t say one thing to me and then another thing behind my back. Honesty is the best policy and its so true!

15- If I could change one thing about myself, it would be: To focus on things one at a time. Sometimes I get caught up in so many things that I forget to sit back, let go and let God handle it. Everything I deal with has to be one-at-a-time, or else stress will overwhelm me and I’ll get nothing accomplished. Reminding myself that God doesn’t put on us, more than we can handle, and he’s got everything under control.

16- My most embarrassing moment was: I went to dinner with my family at some restaurant back when I was living in Beaumont, California. We had put our name in and waited for a table to open up. The hostess looks up and says follow me to your table. I thought she was talking to me and my family. So I get up and start following her to the table. I start to sit down in the booth and as i looked up another family is STARING at me like ” Ummm… I’m sorry what are you doing?!” The hostess wasn’t at all talking to my family and I!! I was mortified!!! Having the loving family that I have, they all just sat back and watched me embarrass myself pointing and laughing as I walked back. It was really funny though!

17- Nobody knows I am: Not a lot of people know that I have a deep passion for cooking! And not to toot my own horn but I’m pretty good at it. My friend calls me a skilled wizard in the kitchen.

18- My friends like me because: I’m honest, funny, genuine, a good listener and I try and find the good in each person!

19- Behind my back they say: This is actually a funny question because most of my friends have told me that they thought that I would be the meanest, most self-centered person because of my looks. Which is not the case at all! To be honest I am a really shy person and know what it feels like to be picked on. Growing up I was teased very badly by almost everyone in my school. I would remember going home and crying because the kids were so mean. Since I have such a deep connection with being picked on I could never imagine doing the same to other people!

20- My favorite color is: Pink! Even though I love red, black, gray, white, purple, yellow etc. Pink is such a happy color.

What can we say? Girls dig guys in football uniforms or a pair o’ baseball pants, guys dig chicks in cheerleader, field hockey… and volleyball outfits. We all know about the booty-shorts, but it’s really the whole package: the shorts, the knee socks, the moisture-wicking fabric- we have to admit, they look like sexy little teams of superheroes out there. Destinee Hooker, is anything but ‘litttle’ however. Though there is no arguing that she is indeed sexy, and at times, just like any other neighborhood superheroine, you will definitely believe she can fly, but perhaps it was Sheer Energy who said it best, “Nothing beats a great pair of legs’ and Hooker’s got two of the best sets of calves, knees and thighs around, supporting that splendidly not-little, six-foot-four-inch frame. But perhaps best of all, she is a gamer. Team USA coach Hugh McCutcheon said of Hooker, in response to she being one of the world’s best players in less than two years after graduating college, “Once you get to know her and you understand her drive and competitive nature, it’s not surprising. Athletically, she’s a very special talent. Combine that with her drive to succeed, and it’s not surprising at all.” For anyone who watched Destinee in the 2009 National Championship against Penn State, where she won MVP in spite of the Longhorn loss (even though Texas tied Penn State 107 to 107), this is already old news.

I guess the old saying, “You’re not always who you were in high school.” rings true for Marie Mai, who revealed in 2011 that she had been bullied in secondary school for her attention disorder. ADHD or not, for us it’s the heavy eyeliner, the leather & spandex, and that in your face “I’m French, bitch.” attitude… that kinda makes it seem like she’s the one doing the bullying, that makes her pretty damn smoking. Plus, we have to admit, her music is really, really good, and that alone is pretty sexy. Facile, oui?

We have the strangest feeling that someone over at The Travel Channel, saw that infamous episode of Seinfeld, where an abominable George Costanza decides he needs to add food as a part of his sex routine, after the overpowering scent of some vanilla incense, makes him hungry. In a round about fashion, that’s pretty much the premise on Food Wars, when Camille Ford, in her Debi Mazar meets Michelle Rodriguez type way, travels to a different city each week to find restaurants with similar products, both claiming to be the best, and proceeds to referee the ‘food war’. Why are they similar? Because Ford is hella sexy, that’s why, and watching the show, you can almost see where Costanza was coming from. Until the day comes when Camille comes to south-western Ohio, for the face off between Skyline and Gold Star Chili, we’ll have to settle for catching Camille on television, but, with her being the host of Design Wars on HGTV, The Movie Show for On Demand, and Best Places I’ve Ever Been on Travel Channel, in addition to Food Wars… at least we’re sufficiently getting our fix.

Hard to believe, but Carmen Soo was the first, and as of 2012, the only Malaysian actress to ever appear on a Filipino TV show. Pinay and Pinoy alike were able to catch Carmen hosting Wowowee, the noon-time variety show on ABS-CBN, but unfortunately the show was cancelled in July of 2010 after only four months. Luckily for us, this five-foot-two fashion model of Chinese descent has enough other TV appearances and print ads to keep her busy for awhile- and also keep herself in the eye of Smartasses and the rest of her adoring public. Carmen speaks fluent Mandarin and Malay as well as English, and thankfully she is also learning Tagalog, which means millions were able to catch her starring as Princess Amara, on the Filipino drama, 5 Star Special. She certainly earns five stars from us as well.
