Charlotte Marie Pomeline Casiraghi (born 3 August 1986) is the second child of Caroline, Princess of Hanover, Hereditary Princess of Monaco, and the late Stefano Casiraghi, an Italian industrialist. She is fourth in line to the throne of Monaco. Her maternal grandmother was Grace Kelly. She is named after her maternal great-grandmother, Princess Charlotte, Duchess of Valentinois.
Charlotte and her two brothers, Andrea and Pierre, were born in the Mediterranean Principality of Monaco, ruled by their maternal grandfather, Prince Rainier III. When she was four years old, her father was killed in a boating accident. After his death, Princess Caroline moved the family to the Midi village of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence in France, with the intention of minimising their exposure to the press. From 2001 through 2004, as a member of Marcel Rozier’s Team Marionnaud, Casiraghi participated in a number of Junior and Amateur class show jumping competitions. She was trained successively by both of Rozier’s sons, first Philippe and then Thierry Rozier.
As the niece of the sovereign of Monaco, Casiraghi undertakes occasional official engagements in Monaco. In 2010, she assumed the role of Honorary President of the Jumping International de Monte-Carlo, a role previously fulfilled by her mother. Since 1997, Casiraghi has been patroness of the Public Safety, Maritime and Airport Police of Monaco.
At the age of 16, Casiraghi was named number ten on a list of the world’s most eligible young women. Vanity Fair, selected Casiraghi as one of the International Best Dressed List of 2006. Casiraghi is a published writer and magazine editor. Her credits include work for Another Magazine and the British The Independent. She is the editor-at-large for Above magazine. Let’s face it, royalty is sexy. Although Charlotte Casiraghi isn’t official royalty and is listed as a private citizen, as the girl who was born the daughter of Princess Caroline of Monaco and received an entire island for her fifth birthday… we’d have to say, it’s close enough. Charlotte is quite the equestrian, and if the horse riding outfits aren’t already too sexy in their own right, as most of Europe will attest, having a few of the late Grace Kelly’s genes roaming through your system doesn’t hurt either- Casiraghi is her grand daughter.
