Anna Kendrick (born August 9, 1985) is an American film and stage actress best known for the roles of Natalie Keener in the 2009 film Up in the Air, and Jessica Stanley in the Twilight Saga film series. Her other work includes the films Camp (2003), Rocket Science (2007) and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010) and the Broadway musical High Society (1998). Kendrick is a Tony, Drama Desk, Screen Actors Guild, BAFTA, Golden Globe, Independent Spirit and an Academy Award nominee for Best Supporting Actress.
Kendrick “caught the (acting) bug” at the age of 10, when her parents would let her and her brother catch a bus from Portland, Maine, to New York City so that she could attend auditions. Kendrick’s first acting role was as Dinah in the Broadway musical High Society in August 1998 when she was twelve years old, a performance for which she earned Theatre World Award, Drama Desk Award, and Tony Award nominations, making her the third-youngest Tony Award nominee.
In October she attended the 2010 Top Glamour Awards in Mexico where she won for “Best International Actress”.
Kendrick is the daughter of Janice, an accountant, and William Kendrick, a history teacher. Kendrick and her older brother, actor Michael Cooke Kendrick, who appeared in the 2000 film Looking for an Echo, both attended Longfellow Elementary School, Lincoln Middle School and Deering High School in Portland. When Anna Kendrick was only ten years old, her Mother would often let she and her brother hop on a bus from Portland, Maine to New York City, just so the two of them could attend theatre auditions. People should be glad her Mother was so supportive, as it was only two years later at the age of twelve, when Anna was nominated for the 1998 Best Actress Tony Award, for her starring role in “High Society.” Remarkable, indeed. But what might be even more august, other than being the third youngest person to ever receive a Tony nomination, is the fact that through 2010, this August born Leo completed a total of nine films- and has either won, or been nominated for an award… in six of them. Clearly an impressive resume. We’re equally as impressed with Kendrick here. Frankly, for the girl who says she’s inspired by Parker Posey amongst others, we find her absolutely adorable.
